
Biography
Ruth Robertson is well known in the Washington
Metropolitan Area for her figurative works. Her
sensuous interpretation of the figure has become a
hallmark of her work.
Although best known for her
black and white photographs
of nudes she is also well
known for her mixed media
works and paintings.
Her work has received critical
acclaim in the Mid-Atlantic
region where it has been
heavily exhibited, and is highly sought by collectors
worldwide. Her work is also included in the
permanent collections of four museums.
Private collectors throughout the United States,
Great Britain, Europe, the Middle and Far East and
Latin America have purchased Robertson's work.
Ruth Robertson is represented by commercial
galleries in Atlanta, GA, Dallas, TX, Los Angeles, CA,
San Diego, CA and is self-representing on the
Internet. Robertson has exhibited her work at The
Museum Of Contemporary Art in DC, where the
museum hosted a solo exhibition of her work. Her
photographs have been exhibited in Havana, Cuba.
Her series "In Conversation With Alesso
Baldovinetti" was discussed on WETA's Around
Town in July of 2002.
Ruth Robertson holds a
Bachelor of Fine Art
degree from Virginia
Commonwealth
University in Richmond,
VA. She spent two years
in West Germany
pursuing her art studies
from 1970- 1972.
Ms. Robertson is a
former art teacher.
Her last teaching position was at Bishop O'Connell
High School in Arlington, VA. Early in her career she
taught in the Fairfax County, Virginia public school
system. She has taught as an adjunct faculty
member in the MIS program at Virginia
Commonwealth University.
In 1988 Ruth Robertson opened her studio as an
exhibition space, used to exhibit not only her work,
but that of other artists. For the next ten years she
worked establishing herself as an artist and an art
dealer.
In 1998 she left her teaching position to work full
time as a studio artist. In May of 2001 she
purchased half interest in District West Fine Art
located in the Northern Virgina Suburbs of
Washington, D.C. .
Robertson developed e-MOCA.com, the first
electronic museum of contemporary art on the
Internet.
Ruth Robertson lives and maintains a studio in the
Washington, DC area of the United States. She is a
listed artist.
